2018 Ride Date:
August 25, 2018
Despite all the fires around Montana, Saturday, August 26 was the perfect day for riding the “York 38 Special.” The smoke did not roll in until around 11:00 am at Indian Flats and most riders had departed that aid station already. An early start is always advisable when the temperatures are as hot as this year. We were fortunate that the smoke stayed out of York for the day, and the Lucky 13ers were able to enjoy the 13-mile ride.
We will keep the Favorite Gulch and Owl Gulch route to Nelson for the 38 Special riders. The riders loved it. We were surprised to not have a single Spirit of 76 rider this year.
About half the riders also biked through Beartrap and most enjoyed the challenge. The fastest riders went through Beartrap and beat the ones going through Trout Creek. It seems that the additional climb and added two miles didn’t faze the experienced mountain bikers.
Thank you all who rode to support our all-volunteer fire department. Our rider numbers were lower than expected this year; however, we had more Lucky 13 Family Fun riders.
A big thank you to all bakers. I heard today from a rider that the home-baked goods are a hit.
A huge thank you to all volunteers who stayed until the last rider made it through the finish line.
Thank you to all businesses and property owners who sponsored our ride and made it successful.
York Fire Rescue hopes to see you all at
YORK FEST on Saturday, September 16.
It starts with a Firefighter Breakfast at 8:00 AM. We hope to have lots of vendors in the park, a band to keep you dancing, the National Guard will bring out a couple of items to keep you entertained, a dunk tank to keep our Fire Chief cooled off, Home Depot will hold their kid's workshop, a safety table for different life situations, a Silent Auction, and as a finale at 4:00 PM the Duck Race ($5 for 1 duck; $20 for 5 ducks).
The friendly York Bar will continue to entertain you throughout the evening.
See you there!!!
